ABOUT

Daisho Con is an annual anime and gaming convention held in Wisconsin. This mobile application was proposed to provide attendees with a dynamic and digital information tool to view the map and schedule, get event notifications, and learn about guests.

ROLE

UX designer, user researcher

Research

Here, I asked participants to rearrange a selection of attributes on their relevance to convention culture and what people look for with convention websites. Images closest to the center of the circle are most relevant.

The results show what images and attributes participants found relevant. Community is the most favored aspect of what people look for in a convention website, while permanence and belonging are significant aspects.

Prototypes

This prototyping phase was user-driven. I instructed participants to place different labels on a piece of paper that served as the main menu of the convention app. Users could place labels outside the paper if they thought the label don’t belong on the main screen or even within the app entirely.

Based on the feedback from the user-driven prototyping, these are the proposed cognitive maps of the paths users would take through the interface.

Wireframes

These wireframes are based on hierarchical patterns that appeared from previous activities with user-research. They layout design in these wireframes aligned with the many of the layout aspects of the physical guidebook of that year.

Visual Design

I put together a basic moodboard as a collection of design inspiration to capture the feel of the direction of a design. The design mockups are a continuation of the wireframes, utilizing color, custom icon-design, and images of Daisho Con’s special guests.
